So, I tried my hand at making buns and supper lastnight, yet again. And I needed something quick as I was getting hungry, so what I came up with was Sloppy Joes and Buns!

NEW Garlic Bun Recipe )

This actually works, and is rather quick. The buns came out a little heavy, but I figure maybe if I let the yeast sit a little longer it might help.

Goopey Meat Recipe )
* 1lb(ish) Ground beef, lean prefered
* 1 onion
* 3 cloves of Garlic
* dash of oil
* 3 Tbsp sugar
* 3 Tbsp yellow mustard
* 1/3 cup Ketchup
* Salt, pepper, chilli powder for taste

1. finely chop garlic and onion
2. Brown meat and onion in a deep skillet/frying pan
3. Drain juices from the pan
4. Add all other ingredients to the pan and cook on high for 3-5 minutes, constantly stirring. Do not let it burn!
5. Turn off heat but leave on burner. Cover with lid.

Really easy, inexpensive, and tasty.
The result? By the time I was done the meat the buns had been out of the oven long enough to be cut open. It was wonderful! Fed 3 people and there were enough leftovers for one more bun/meat. Total prep time before nomming? About 40 minutes.

Sorry, no pictures this time. they got eaten too fast.

So at 70.8km. nearly halfway there. so long as it isn't thunderstorming tonight when I leave work I'll be over halfway to my goal.
The wind is a little up. was afraid it was going to rain on me on the way in, but it held off.

Phone is now running WinMo 6.5, customizing it as I go. so far performance is good. Better than on the stock Bell rom I was using before.

need grogeries. I don't mind scrabbling food, but having more choice is good. Though, my onion-oil-random spices pasta sauce turned out rather well. Needed more garlic, though.

Need new shoes. See last post.

Need more coffee. The machine stuff at work is barely drinkable, but it'll do for now.

Need more braincells. mmmm... brains....

lastly, been thinking of touching up the Feli suit again. So i'll need to go to a fabric store. Need to make new paws, tail.

What do you need?

We join our intrepid bunny after having made pizza from scratch from the bottom up.
The crust worked. A very simple recipe.

The pizzas themselves... well... the first on ended up rising a little much on the edge, the crust becoming half the pizza.
But the second...Pizza a la bunny

I have also decided I will cook more, bake more, even through Karen won't :P

So, I was thinking of making bread tonight, but then found out we were out of Milk. So I modified my idea and made burgers instead. But unlike last time, this time I made the buns from scratch!

Required Equipment:
-Bread Maker
-2 Cookie Sheets
-Parchment Paper

1 cup water
2 eggs
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
4 Tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp salt
2 1/2 Tbsp Onion Flakes
4 cups flour
1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast

Toss the ingredients into the breadmaker in the order listed.
Select dough/pasta setting. When the cycle is complete (right before it starts to rise in the bread maker) remove dough from machine to a lightly floured surface.
Cut the dough after folding it a few times in half. repeat and repeat until you end up with bits that will very easilly fit in your balled hands.
Ball the dough and put it on the papered cookie sheets. let them sit and rise for about 30 minutes or so.

They'll look like this:

Combine 1 slightly beaten egg with 1 tbsp of water and brush on the buns.
Bake at 350 for about 10 minutes or until lightly brown.

They'll come out something like this:
Round 2:

Round 1 looked... well... Round 1:

The first set were very nummy. sweet, oniony... second batch is going into the oven in a few minutes. With burgers in them, they were heavenly, if a little heavy.

Yes, this is a reminder for the MonFur Brunch! (first installment)

When is it? This Sunday! Sunday, May 4, 2008, starting around 10:30/11:00am Some of us will be there early so faces are recognisable.

Where is it? La Piazza Gousta. 45, 90th Avenue, LaSalle (at the corner of LaSalle)

How do I get there? Bus: the 110 and the 106 both pass rather close to the restaurant. I suggest using the STM website to pinpoint your best route.
Driving: Again, googlemaps is your best shot for directions, but it's on Lasalle Blvd, across the street from the Couche Tard (hard to miss the Couche Tard). Parking is in the back. (the link has the address already entered)

What is the MonFur Brunch? Well, it is a meeting, on a Sunday, at a restaurant to have breakfast as a group.

This is NOT, I repeat: NOT a furmeet like the ones we have been having. This is a biweekly breakfast/brunch where we can all get together, say hi, catch up, etc... Also it's a chance to have out-of-towners who want to visit to have a set point to meet up with us all.
This is not free, however if all you can do is a cup of coffee you're welcome to come along.
Breakfast will range from about $5 to $15 (and the $15 is after tip, and is a very big meal)

If, after the breakfasts people want to do something, or if there is an actual furmeet scheduled for that day, all the better. But this is just a chance for us all to get together in a social atmosphere.

Hope to see you all there!
Reservations will be made shortly so we should have a little section to ourselves. If you haven't let myself, Twitchy or MAnlantrio know you're attending, please do so?

That frazzled bunny-guy... over there... Yes that's him... with the hat...

Breakfast was a success!
[profile] dolphin_lover  couldn't finish hers, but [profile] khydeeaunta and I both did :)
Long and short of it:

Here is essentially what you get for food:

There's a ton of food on there. really.
And the cost: about $15 per person after tip. and this was the slightly more expensive end of the breakfasts!

for those interested, and in the area, I am announcing that there will be an announcement on both the MonFur LJ group and on the Monfur mailing list. Keep Tuned!

So today we ([profile] khydeeaunta, [profile] dolphin_lover and I) are going to try a place out for compatibility with brunch-type stuff for our fellow monfurs. Yes, we are biting the bullet and rigorously testing food-making locations for a few key elements,
There will be a brief summary, but already we are keen on this place.

Please stay tuned for more news and stuff!

In weather: It's not snowing!

In life: There is some!

In news: I have not yet had coffee! Can you tell?

Do you ever think about the air we breathe? Gas of life? Or secret military death-vapour?! Find out! Tonight!

(we the management take no responsibility for any harm, mental or physical, that may result from reading this journal. Thank you. We now return you to your machine that goes *PING!*)

felinaeus: (Mauri2)'s coming up on 1pm, I am safe and sound here in Ottawa.
I have a few things I need to go hunting for downtown, but am cellphoneless (and seeing as I won't be at Angela/Antra's place, out of communications range).
But, I will be planning on potentially hitting ESD (Elgin Street Diner, you know... that diner... on Elgin street...) tonight around 4pm or so for coffee (and still one of the best poutines I can find). Anyone who wants to meet up with me is welcome to do so around that point. I do believe I will need to return to A&A's place tonight later on to sleep the night again, but that's not exactly till later. And tomorrow I'm booked starting at 11:00 or so till the C-ACE meeting ends.

So again, if you want to meet, 4pm, ESD, I'll hang around there for a while.
