State of the bunny
Alright. So, here's what's been going on. This is going to be a bit rambly, so I'll shove it behind a cut. Up to you if you want to know what's been up or not.
So that brings you up to date. TL:DR...I have high BP, not sure what's causing it, awaiting test results and so am taking things VERY easy. I am Okay, and I know people are worried. So am I, but i'm alive, am mobile, and typing.
So Sunday my usually slightly-high blood pressure spiked. This is a guess on my part, but an educated one. A headache started.
Monday, I took the day off from work. Felt like crap, barely slept, and still had a headache. Started feeling better after a 5 hour nap on the couch.
Tuesday, went to work. Walked in on my own, just to relax and ignore the world for a bit. Was a good walk, and felt decent. Still a headache, but mild, and I could still feel my blood pressure being up. When I got home (drove home with Pup), I went downstairs to talk with his mom (who is our Landlord). She happened to have a portable BP machine, so I checked my BP twice: 159/109 and 146/106. I knew it was high.
Wednesday, walked to work. Still with mild headache. Decided to see if I could get out early and go to the hospital to get checked out. Work let me out at 2:45, so headded to the LaSalle hospital (closest to home, kinda).
Now the rundown: Got to hospital at 4:00-ish. The emergency room at this hospital is understaffed, but I was expecting that. Got seen by triage nurse after about 30 minutes.
-Blood pressure and pulse taken and thermometre used. After describing the symptoms to the nurse she them looked at the readout and her eyes widened. I asked her point blank "That's not a good thing, is it?" My BP was apparently 173. So she figured it was a fluke and took it on the other arm to be sure. And her eyes widened again. She then took what I can only guess was a diabetes-type blood test (finger prick) and hooked me up to an EKG machine. EKG was fine.
-Waiting room for the doctor. 1 hour. he headache that spiked earlier was starting to weaken a bit. Go in to see the doctor, and he makes me put on the hospital gown. He checks my BP (down to 154 or so) and then asks me "Is your right pupil always a bit larger than your left?" This made me blink and honestly say I had never noticed it. So he decides to have my sinuses x-rayed and get a scan.
-Hooked to an IV, (squick bit: BP high enough for me to spurt upon insertion) with a push of something (not demerol, something different, starts with an M I think) that takes 30 minutes and a saline bag. 30 minutes later both are empty and I am in no head pain any longer.
-SHIFT CHANGE!
-New nurse comes over, changes the saline bag and unhooks the other serynge. MAnny makes it to the hospital to keep me company, so now I'm not going so nuts lying there.
-Get wheel-chaired to the X-RAY room, and get the sinus X-Ray done. then, back to the bed.
- The nice nurse actually commented that I hadn't eaten anything, and offers to find me some food. She then brings me (an hour later) a sandwhich, jello, milk and some cookies.
-Another hour or so (now it's about 11pm) the doctor comes by. My X-Rays were clean, bloodwork was fine, and aside from the high BP and the (now gone) headaches, I appear fine. But the doc is still a bit concerned about the pupils thing. Gives me the option of staying at the hospital overnight and having the cat-scan in the morning, or going home and making an appointment for the scan. I opt to go home, can't stand staying in the ER overnight.
-Bus home, wolf down 3 slices of pizza (thanks to Twitchy) and then pass out. This is at about 1:30 AM.
Thursday, decided not to go to work again. Hospital calls in the AM and offers me a cat scan appointment at 3pm. I agree as I'm already not at work. So I go a little early and get myself a small indulgence at Best Buy (You Don't Know Jack for the PS3... Hooray for party games!), then to the hospital. 3pm on the nose the nurse calls me in, straps me to the bed, and I get scanned. 5 minutes later I'm making the follow up appointment for next week for the results of the scan. Another headache around supper time (on the top of my head, very odd this one) but it goes away after food, and so I go to bed.
Today: am at work. BP is up a bit but nowhere near the levels of the last few days. No headache either, but the advils are near. We'll take the day a step at a time.
So, been doing some personal research. Going to change my diet for a while. More fruits and veggies, less salt, no caffeine outside of tea (and more herbal teas... ugh), a crapton of water, and dark chocolate.
The water thing... I've been reading online that perhaps a small water-fasting would be helpful. go a few days only having water, but a LOT of water. We'll see.
