Albino squirrels
Oct. 4th, 2006 11:36 amOne of the biggest (to me) differences between Ottawa and Montreal are the squirrels.
In Ottawa, the squirrels are predominantly black. There are quite a few grey, and even some of those red squirrels (yes, Over the Hedge did them justice). Chipmunks even.
In Montreal, they're grey. Period. I have not seen one black squirrel, not one red, and not a single chipmunk since we moved here.
I just find this a little odd as it's only 200km from one city to the other (roughly), and yet the animal population is that different.
Now, when in Ottawa, I remember seeing the odd squirrel that was albino. Black Albino squirrels are ugly little things. the fur is too stringy or sparse so they look like rats with fluff.
But this morning I saw an albino grey squirrel. Pure white (aside from the dirt), but it was a grey squirrel. The fur all puffy and soft-looking. Made for a very interesting sight.
That's all. Just thoughts on that.
Must have more coffee now.
