Today is a holiday in Quebec. Either St-Jean-Baptiste day or Fete Nationale or something or other (the name keeps changing, but it is always 1 week before Canada Day).
My office is located in Quebec.
Ontario does not have this day off.
Therefore we have to be open to support the Ontario retailers (and westerns, of course).
But we're on minimal staff as it is a holiday.
So, 1/3 of the staff to support 2/3 of the calls and orders.
On the plus side it is a tripple-pay day as I am working on the holiday :)
but gah!

Good Thing | Bad Thing
Apr. 29th, 2009 11:05 amGood Thing: Tool at work that I developped and put in place is working very well. No major issues or complaints.
Bad Thing: Throat is sore since yesterday evening. No clue what it is. Might be an infection, so will have to keep an eye on it. Better today, though.
Good Thing: I am going to be DJing at a rather sizeable Birthday thingy in a couple of months. I have the music, but must get more.
Bad Thing: need to figure out sound equipment for this as I do not have large speakers.
Good Thing: What The Fur is moving along
Bad Thing: Need more hours in the day to move it along faster.
Good Thing: umm... Weather! It is absolutely gorgeous out there today!
Bad Thing: ... I have to work on this gorgeous day.

mornings...
Mar. 25th, 2009 08:07 amI sleep like a log when I go to bed after working mornings.
I am more awake when I am working mornings.
I drink less coffee (*gasp*) when I work mornings.
I am hungry when I get home after working mornings.
I am more braindead when I get home after working mornings.
...
bwah?
Anywhoo, things on my project at work are moving forward a lot faster than anticipated. The Powers That Be have, within the span of a few hours, created server space for my site and I'll have the internal URL by the end of the week.
I was seriously expecting that the PtB would take a few days to get it started.
This means I need to get off my tail and finish a working version of the site. It's about 80% ready at this point. I just need to translate it to French now, create the mirror and get it going.
Also need to figure out a way for the form submitter to properly interface with the SQL database, but that's something that can backburner for now.
I want my new phone. I wants it. I am going from this, which I absolutely adore and love, to this. So going from cool to more cool. But it looks like I might have to wait until late next month for my elligibility to come around. Man, I switch gears from high-tech to steampunk at a drop of the hat... hmmm... might need to clean my hat some too...

day 4 of 8:30 am shift start time.
Strangely, although sleeping has been an adventure unto itself, I find i'm massively more productive working the day shift.

Things I have accomplished this week:
- Gotten the website I am working on for work almost at a testable phase. This includes getting the official font for the company, the style guides and such, as well as getting the form to request corporate intranet web space for the site.
- This also includes the sister-site that I am developing for one of the other teams in my department
- Been to meetings and am developing a new method for one of our partner companies to interact with us. This is big and imacting.
- kept on top of current job stuff.

On another front, I should have the WTF emails created and sent to the correct individuals by tomorrow afternoon. Sorry for the delay, folks.
well doesn't that just spell fail...
Dec. 8th, 2008 11:18 amSo today is provincial voting day in Quebec.
I had long ago decided that because I hadn't heard anything about any of the party platforms I wasn't going to go and vote. One of the rare times I don't go out to X a paper.
But because of legislation, work has to give you consecutive 4 hours to go and vote. As my shift is a little wonky (11:30 to 8:00), my start time got kind of moved to 1:30, giving me an extra 2 hours before I needed to be at work...
Yet here I am.
Oh well, gives me time to catch up on some of my projects.
EDIT: Well, looks like it was a good thing I came in. Short staffed today, and was asked nicely if I didn't mind hopping on the queue to help out. When asked nicely I have absolutely no problems with it. :)

farkingfarkfarkfark
Sep. 11th, 2008 03:41 pmFarking excel in french.
Why did they have to make formula codes translated?
I had an excel test today for an analyst position in another division of the company. It needed formulas.
and beause it was in French excel, and not english, I KNEW the formula I needed, but I didn't know how to translate the thing.
Fark.
Stupidity abounds
Aug. 20th, 2008 11:16 amAnd it begins.
I haven't even officially started my shift yet, and the stupid is almost thick enough to cut with a knife.
J has no idea that he is being picked on, or if he does, he tries to one up it by showing how he is in the right. But it digs his grave deeper.
He's pissing me off, pissing off I, and I'm willing to bet pissing off Julie too. this is getting ridiculous.
Those of you that know me, know I let a lot slide before I do anything drastic, but the argument that I and J got into a few minutes ago... I almost wanted to turn around and just tell them to shut the hell up and behave.
Grrrrrrrr.
Oh, Queenie, get in touch with me with regards to where and when I need to be on Saturday.
(Damn I need more icons for my posts. I need something angry.

mini-update
May. 7th, 2008 01:29 pmHooray for more responsibility!
Work will be keeping me busy at least.
When not on the queue, or at least when it's not too busy, I'll be leading up a few of the projects for our team here at work.
I have my tool that I have programmed for the team, and the various reporting to go with it.
I have a revamp project for a whole chanel.
I have a revamp/intro for a new chanel of stuff.
And soon SLA monitoring.
Things are looking occupied :)

I didn't get the TM position. 10 applicants, and 5 interviews. I came in 2nd (apparently).
But in the 30 minute interview followup I had I found out I impressed the hell out of my director.
So much so that he's going to help me with the few things he saw needed a little fime tuning to get me into a better position. He offered to do this personally for me.
I think he rocks :)
Oh well, better luck next time. But for now, at least I enjoy my job, so it's no huge loss.

In a tie even!
Sep. 13th, 2007 11:59 amHere I sit, all spiffed up. and *gasp* I'm even wearing a tie!
So, I believe the interview went very well.
Despite the bus passing me a block before the moved stop thismorning, and getting to work 15 minutes before the interview, I feel I was calm and rather relaxed through the meeting. The questions were fair and well done.
One of the questions, I think, was targeted and tailored specifically for me. I just hope I gave them what they were hoping for in an answer. Another they skipped completely because they both admitted that I could have gone on for 20 minutes and already acknowledged my expertise in that area.
All said and done, I'll know by Tuesday night.
